Introduction

Welcome to the EMDR Hong Kong Certification program! This program aims to acknowledge therapists who demonstrate excellence in EMDR practice, contributing to their personal growth and offering professional recognition beyond the Basic EMDR Therapy Training.

Graduates of the Certification Program will be honored with the “Certified EMDR Therapist” certificate. Moreover, this prestigious title will be featured in the graduate’s profile within both the Hong Kong EMDR Therapist Registry, and the Find a Therapist listing.

Certification through EMDRHK is in line with EMDRIA’s standards in the USA and is specially adapted to cater to the distinct needs of the Hong Kong community.

Criteria for getting Certified

To earn the title of Certified EMDR Therapist, applicants must satisfy the following requirements:

  1. General Counseling Experience: At least 2 years of one-on-one general counseling experience, not including any internships /placements post-graduation.
  2. Completion of EMDR Therapy Basic Training: Possession of a Certificate of Completion (COC) from EMDRHK or an overseas institution/trainer recognized by EMDRHK.
  3. EMDR Therapy Experience and Practice: Completion of at least 50 EMDR therapy sessions with a minimum of 25 different clients following the completion of the EMDR Therapy Basic Training.
  4. Guidance & Supervision (G&S): A minimum of 20 EMDRHK G&S sessions, with at least 10 individual sessions. The remainder can be in small group sessions, with a maximum of 6 participants each. Sessions must be at least 50 minutes long, with interactive participation, and limited to one session per day. All sessions should have occurred after the completion of the EMDR Therapy Basic Training and within the last 5 years.
  5. Letters of Recommendation: Two recommendation letters issued by colleagues or peers about your professional use of EMDR, ethical practice and professional conduct.

Fees

  1. Certification Application: HKD1,170 for EMDRHK members (HKD1,700 for non-members)
  2. Renewals:  HKD780 for EMDRHK members (HKD1,300 for non-members)

Application Process

  1. Initiate the application by accessing, completing and submitting the Application form (click on the button below).
  2. Proceed to pay the Application Fee and send proof of payment via email. Confirmation of application will be emailed within 3 days after receipt of both the form and payment proof.
  3. The form allows for periodic updates. It is advisable to regularly update it and upload necessary documents as they become available.
    Once you complete all certification requirements, please notify us by email.
  4. EMDRHK will thoroughly review your submission and may request further information, supporting documents or clarifications. This process typically takes 2-3 weeks.
  5. Once reviewing is complete, EMDRHK will notify you. Upon preliminary approval, please print out the form, have it notarized, and deliver it to us. Following this, we will issue your Certified EMDR Therapist credential document.
  6. EMDRHK reserves the right to defer issuing the certification to any applicant, ensuring that such a decision is made on reasonable grounds. The authority to grant certification to any applicant ultimately resides with EMDRHK.
